One week down and so far my Zucchini plant is going strong! The flowers and grass are also thriving.

Even my 3-year-old helped.
Our planting weather was perfect, and all of the children enjoyed digging in the dirt and seeing it come together.

My lovely first born.
Even though we’re only growing grass (new sod), a few flowers, and two vegetable plants, I have a new appreciation for family farmers who battle the elements so that I may prepare a meal for my own family.

My oldest son was eager to help and enjoyed checking to ensure holes were deep and wide enough.
So, the grass, flowers, and zucchini are going strong! I don’t even have to water the ground and bed every two to three hours anymore. Have I mentioned that tending a garden feels similar to Mothering a newborn?

This girl was too impatient to wait for a shovel so used her hands.
Unfortunately, I don’t think our cucumber plant is going to make it. We’re still showing it some love, so hoping it’ll pull through. The vegetable plants have their own special section and we're babying them.

My older two children look forward to watering the bed each day.
The children have enjoyed watering the bed each day and watching the flowers grow stronger. It's also nice to see the sod take root and turn into lush green grass.

I was thinking about you and your beautiful raised bed last night. We were at an Ag in the City event and Allison won the materials for building one. She's excited to have won something, though I don't think she understands it. I've always wanted to try raised beds...esp for things like carrots (although now we've discovered a carrot allergy in our house...weird, but a totally different topic.) Anyway, now I'm excited to get this put together...maybe we can compare notes!
ReplyDeleteSounds good, Rachel!! :) And sorry for the carrot allergy. :(
